Casa Mila !

If you ask the people of Barcelona where Casa Milà is, some of them might look surprised. That is so because the famous building by Gaudi is better known as 'La Pedrera' (the word in Catalan language meaning for 'mine'), The architectural masterpiece has been completed between the years 1905 to 1907. Its address is Passeig de Gràcia Number 92 ('passeig' means street in Catalan) in the Eixample district of Barcelona. It was ordered by rich tradesman Roger Segimon de Milà. The building today is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites List.

What is the most remarkable quality of the building is that there are no straight lines. It looks really impressive - some people compare it to lava, other say its curves look like sand-dune. This building is one of the first to break the conventional understanding of architecture. The most fabulous bit of the building is the roof with an moon-like appearance and starry-like landscape.

The intellectuals consider this building can a sculpture rather a regular building. It may not be fully useful, but it certainly is a work of art. A paradox of history is that the Barcelonese who lived when it was being built called it "ugly", yet nowadays it is one of the most famous landmarks of Barcelona.

Casa Mila was first among a whole range of similar buildings - it was the predecessor of Guggenheim Museum in New York,Chapelle Notre Dame du Haut, Ronchamp, France,
some of the Hundertwasser houses and Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

Often free exhibitions take place at the first floor, which gives excellent opportunity to see the interior of Casa Mila.
If you want to go to the upper floor or the roof, you should pay an entrance fee of €7.
