Bono's humanitarian shopping campaign

U2 frontman Bono and talk show hostess Oprah went on a shopping spree in Chicago to promote a new clothing line, gadgets and accessories, including a limited-edition iPod. A portion of the proceeds will be used to fund the fight against AIDS in Africa. The new line, Product Red, is on sale by Gap, Motorola, Armani, Apple Computer and Converse. Parts of sales income will be acquired by The Global Fund, an organization that fights to prevent AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
In a phone interview Bono expressed disbelief that people would rush to support the initiative actively, which is why he took to the mall, to “get to people where they're at”.
Apple will donate 10 dollars from the price of each iPod, while Gap will donate half the profits from the Red line to The Global Fund.
Bono and Winfrey sauntered down Michigan Avenue to an Apple store and bought a red iPod. They also visited Armani and Motorola stores.
The initiative has raised over 12 million dollars for AIDS programs in several months.
