Third International Dance Festival Ireland Coming Up Soon

The third edition of International Dance Festival Ireland is coming up soon! It will run for two weeks from Friday, April 21 to Sunday, May 7 in 2006. Following the resounding success of International Dance Festival Ireland 2002 and 2004, the festival is preparing for its third edition, which will probably be the most exciting to date. It will take place at various venues in Dublin. Irish audiences will delight in international modern dance performances, traditional Irish dances and a wide range of special festival commissions. World-renowned dance troupes and famous companies are part of the lineup. The program is a diverse blend of dances of all traditions and styles. It is accessible to people from all walks of life – from dance professionals to amateurs. There will be a community participation program, a kids’ program, a film program, an artist in residence program and a new initiative on dance criticism.
The Arts Council supports International Dance Festival Ireland.
The program includes Pichet Klunchun, Raimund Hoghe’s Swan Lake, Charles Linehan’s Happy Days and New Quartet, Jenny Roche’s Mapping The Trace, Willi Dorner’s Dance Karaoke, Nigel Charnock Company’s Frank and John Jasperse Company’s Prone. All these will take place at the Project venue in Dublin. Project will also host Feet, a photography exhibit, and Beyond Words display. Events at the Abbey Theatre will include Montalvo–Hervieu’s On Danѓe, the Book Launch on April 25 and the exuberant Shen Wei Dance Arts’ Rite of Spring/Folding. RTE Dance ‘On the Box’ will take place at Meetinghouse Square. While you are there you can take time to visit the other attractions at the square, including the Irish Photography Center. Meetinghouse Square is among the latest additions to the famous Temple Bar district of Dublin, named after the Temple family, who lived here in the 17th century. Sir William Temple, Provost of Trinity College in 1609, had a house with gardens in this district. The square is used for outdoor film shoots in the summer. The Temple Bar Food Market opens here once a week. Another attraction in the Temple Bar is the Temple Bar Gallery. The Irish Modern Dance Theatre will perform a spectacle entitled Close Ups during the International Dance Festival at Temple Bar Gallery. It will run from May 2 to May 4.
The children’s program is Children's Season, scheduled to take place at the Ark, Dublin’s cultural center for children. The Ark is the first center of this kind in Europe. It has a gallery and a 150-seat theatre.
