Ireland Challenge 2006

Dublin is preparing for a great and unique event - The Ireland Challenge 2006. It will take place from April 22 to April 29. This yacht race will begin and end in Dublin city. The yachts will race around the Emerald Isle. The crews will be welcomed with a ceremony in Dublin before the race starts.
Everybody with at least some knowledge of sailing is aware that the waters around Ireland can be very challenging. For example, the crews will have to navigate in the area of Fastnet Rock, a dangerous part of the Irish Sea. There are tidal abnormalities west of Ireland due to the strong currents of the Atlantic Ocean.
Ireland Challenge is organized by Challenge Business, an international organization. This exciting race will involve a fleet of identical yachts. Crews will enjoy close sailing, as this is a uniform event in terms of design.
The race will be preceded by a training session from Plymouth to Dublin. The crews will prepare for the race in Dublin for several days. After the awards ceremony in Dublin the fleet will return to Plymouth.
Everyone with a sense of adventure can apply for a berth. This is a great chance to get out of the office. What’s better, you can fit the event into 10 days leave. You don’t need sailing experience – training is provided.
An expert skipper and first mate will command each yacht. 16 men or women per vessel are allowed to take part in the event – 80 places on 5 yachts in total.
The race preparations in Dublin will include the exciting Goodbye Bash. Prizes will be given on April 28. By May 1 the crews will depart for Plymouth. The total cost of a berth is GBP 2 750. This price covers the parties, the awards ceremony, food supplied over the course of the race, training, insurance, race brand clothing and accommodation on the vessel at dock. You will need to pay extra for bad weather gear, thermals, sailing shoes and sleeping bags.
If you have decided to apply, you need to do so as soon as possible. Being a brand new race, it is expected to gain great popularity. 96 crew places are available, and when these are filled the organizers will hire reserves. If a selected crewmember withdraws, that place will be offered to one of the people on the reserve list.
