European Films Festival in BarcelonaThe Mostra Internacional de Cinema Europeu Contemporani de Barcelona (MICEC), the popular film festival, will take place between 1-st and 9-th of June. About 50 films, many of which will premier, will be shown at the festival. The MICEC also organizes place for debate. The festival will be opened by one of the most infulential film directors in Europe - the Portuguese Manoel de Oliveira. Another very important figure in the festival is the Belgian director Chantal Akerman. Akerman emplos many different genres, from documentaries to fiction. The MICEC also plans a screening of Klimt, by the Chilean director now living in France, Raoul Ruiz. European cinema made by young people is also represented at the festival. Andreas Dresen will show Verano en Berlín, laureate of the Premi del Jurat al Millor Guió award for best script, at the last Donosti film festival, also Willenbrock. Famous directors such as Pedro Costa, Philippe Garrel and Bertrand Bonello will also attend the event with their latest films, along with the Czech animator, Jan Svankmajer. Spanish representation on the festival is Marc Recha, Joaquim Jordà and Isaki Lacuesta, and others, too. The film to close the festival is "Un couple parfait", by the director Nobuhiro Suwa, whose films have been compared to works of Antonioni and Rossellini.
