Nude cyclists!Nude cyclists rode their bikes around Spanish cities. The demonstration, in which hundreds of nude cyclists took part on Saturday to protest against streets full of cars and to demand more respect for bikers, and pollution-free transport in general. With stickers and slogans "one car less" and "bio methanol" written on their backs with paint, the naked cyclists staged Spain's what has been the third annual Ciclonudista or "Nudecycle" in Madrid, Barcelona and Pamplona. At the same day, people from Europe, North and South America and New Zealand protested for the bikers' clause. The statement of the demonstrators was: "We feel naked when up against traffic because people don't see the bicycle as just another means of transport," The participants had intresting posters and cardboards - with gaping jaws, eating up the rear wheels. According to protesters the fast rise in automobile ownership in Spain was transforming city streets into even more hostile and dangerous for cyclers. Organizers and participants said that bicycles were healthy and efficient form of urban transport but it is largely ignored by Spanish drivers and city planners. There are not enough bike lanes and preferences for bikers. By Mila at 13 Jun 2006 - 8:49am | Events in Barcelona | Mila's blog | login or register to post comments |
